4 Days – Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Lalibela

• Morning flight from Addis Ababa to Lalibela.
• Afternoon introduction tour of the town and surrounding villages.
• Overnight: Lalibela Hotel/Lodge.

Day 2: The Northern Rock-Hewn Churches

• Visit the first cluster of churches: Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, Bete Meskel, Bete Golgotha and Selassie.
• Learn about the history, spirituality, and architecture.
• Overnight: Lalibela Hotel/Lodge.

Day 3: The Southern Churches & St. George

• Explore the second cluster: Bete Gabriel, Bete Merkorios, Bete Amanuel, and Bete Abba Libanos.
• Highlight visit to Bete Giyorgis (St. George’s Church), the iconic cross-shaped masterpiece.
• Evening traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony or cultural dance show.
• Overnight: Lalibela Hotel/Lodge.

Day 4: Monastery Visit – Return to Addis Ababa

• Morning hike or mule ride to Asheton Maryam Monastery for panoramic views of the highlands.
• Fly back to Addis Ababa.
• Evening traditional farewell dinner and transfer to the airport for departure.
